Smaller sized black cup made of jianshui clay with thick wall. The cup is split in the middle, which makes it very comfortable to hold. Jianshui clay is a polished black ceramic from Jianshui city in Yunnan province.

Jianshui is one of the four famous ceramic cities in China. Due to the artistic processing of coloured clays from local mines and the related ceramic crafts, it is similar to Yixing.  The township is in Yunnan, not far from Kunming. Jianshui teapots, which are more robust than Yixing teapots, are made on a potter’s wheel. The valuable handicraft in this case is the process of carving, filling the carvings with different coloured clays and then polishing the surface with river stones. The unglazed pots, which shine brightly on the outside, are ‘breathing’ tea vessels with high heat retention. Their colour is usually eggplant black or rust brown, but they can also be light grey or yellow. The antique-looking style vessels are decorated with figurative motifs and calligraphy.
