CHARACTER
Yame/Fukoka is one of Japan’s three traditional gyokuro-making regions, alongside Kyoto/Uji and Fujieda/Okabe (Asahinacha).Over the past few decades, Japan’s most popular gyokuro teas have been largely produced here. With its extremely full-bodied, silky smooth, (southern) fruity base character, a yame gyokuro will always find its way to your heart. The current gyokuro, in keeping with the southern trend, is a slightly deeper steamed tea than the average, adding to the very soft, sweet base character of the tea.
The 100-year-old, multi-award-winning Ushijima company was introduced to us on our May 2023 professional trip to Fukuoka, Japan, and we will be introducing more of their teas soon.
We recommend the tea in its original 100 gram packet, but 30 and 50 gram measured small portions are also available.
