Description
STYLE
Vintage Qing Hua (under glaze blue painted) teacup from a thick porcelain covered with a Qing Bai (bluish white) glaze.
Chinese flower and bird painting became very popular in China during the Tang and Song periods. The birds and flowers in the pictures have their own symbolism, from which a hidden meaning or story can be read. The rim of the cup is decorated with a leiwen motif, which has been found in Chinese and other cultures’ pictographs since ancient times. The birds pictured among the flowering peony branches represent a good luck wish: wealth, rank and honour for the whole house.
