The Legacy of Gyokuro Masters – Exclusive Presentation and Tea Tasting
€40.00
Description
What makes a gyokuro a true masterpiece? Discover the living legends of Japanese tea culture and explore their teas in an exclusive tasting event. During this guided tasting session, we will prepare award-winning teas from the renowned Asahina gyokuro masters, available only in rare and limited quantities. As you enjoy the tea, you will get an insight into the unique natural features of the Asahina region, the techniques and craftsmanship of gyokuro masters, and the meticulous methods that shape the character of these artisanal teas.
The village of Okabe, near Fujieda City in Shizuoka Prefecture, along the Asahina River, is one of Japan’s three traditional gyokuro-producing regions, alongside Uji in Kyoto and Yame in Fukuoka. The local farmers and gyokuro masters are among Japan’s most revered tea legends. Their families have cultivated tea for generations, and they themselves have 50–60 years of experience, using traditional techniques to craft teas that are highly esteemed in the region.
Tasting a master gyokuro is an immersive experience—an umami-rich, almost brothy sweetness unfolds with a velvety texture, lingering long after each sip. The first infusion is deep and savory, like a delicate sea breeze with hints of nori and fresh spring greens. Subsequent brews reveal layers of floral, nutty, and even subtly fruity notes. The tea’s thick, almost syrupy mouthfeel and long aftertaste make each sip a moment of quiet contemplation, a true reflection of the tea master’s skill and the terroir of Asahina.
