Description
STYLE
Classic shape, elegant white gaiwan with a nice round belly and a precise lid. The white porcelain utensils are dominated by the tea, showing the original colour and texture of the brew.
Porcelain is an unglazed ceramic, sometimes slightly translucent, essentially white in colour, the composition of which is obtained by mixing kaolin and porcelain stones (dunzi) in the right proportion. It is fired at high temperatures of 1200-1300 °C in an oxygen-depleted environment. The material of the porcelain body has varied in China over the millennia from one region to another, so in addition to the thin-walled, lustrous bone china we all know, there is a wide variety of wall thicknesses and compositions of porcelain in China. In contrast to Yixing and other clays, they are low porosity, low permeability, high strength and have a hard and brittle surface. Their thickness varies from 0.2 to 0.8 mm – there are harder varieties with almost transparent thinness as well as thicker varieties that are softer to the touch.
