STYLE

A small-sized, square-shaped Yixing teapot made of solid, high-fired deep pure purple clay. On one side, there is calligraphy, and on the other side, a frequently depicted motif of Chinese pictography: a bird swinging on a blooming plum branch. The S-shaped spout beautifully integrates into the square teapot. The filter is sizable, and the lid fits perfectly into the teapot, as expected. It’s a flawless and beautiful piece. The calligraphy is: Yi Xin, which means joyful heart. Di Cao Qing ni is a higher-quality, firmer clay with a higher iron content, mined from deeper layers. A richly decorated, clay-inlaid masterpiece.

We have been in contact with the Xu family for a long time. Almost every family member lives and works near the Dragon Kiln in Dingshu village, Yixing city. Their teapots are in the old style and are completely handmade. The shapes often feature classic teapot forms with literary or pictorial connotations.
