Ma Tai is a small village near the Lancang River in the high-mountain region of Lincang. The area is characterized by rocky, exposed, sunny hillsides and stony soil, with steam rising from the river, close to the Wuyi Mountains, or the home of the dancing tea, Mount Phoenix in Canton. Teas from this area are also known as Yunnan rock teas and are known for their fruity, full-bodied flavor with a lingering aftertaste. Their character is restrained, deep, and warm, all unfolding slowly, providing a long tea-drinking experience.
